The Challenge
Catalina Island is an isolated, ecologically sensitive environment with limited infrastructure and no connection to mainland water systems. Its existing wastewater management approach was neither scalable nor sustainable given the island's growing tourism load and environmental constraints.
The challenge was to rethink the system from the ground up — balancing regulatory requirements, ecological preservation, community needs, and the logistical realities of island infrastructure.
My Role
Strategist and researcher. Led qualitative research, stakeholder analysis, and systems-level strategic recommendations for the island's wastewater infrastructure redesign.
