Reinventing what hearing aids are not solving

The Brief

Identify a product commonly used today that is not actually addressing the problem it was originally intended to solve. Redesign from first principles.

We chose hearing aids. They amplify sound — but hearing loss isn't just about volume. It's about spatial awareness: knowing where sound is coming from, distinguishing signal from noise, orienting yourself in an environment. Hearing aids don't solve that.

The Work

We designed a necklace that uses haptic feedback to give the wearer spatial awareness. Vibrations map directional sound to different points on the body — turning what you can't hear into something you can feel. Wearable, discreet, and designed to be worn with pride rather than hidden.
